The Seed of Vatican II. Blossoming in Asian Landscape is the title of the public conference organised by the Pontifical John Paul II Institute with the Pontifical Irish College, which took place on Thursday 10 October 2024.
The speaker of the conference, which took place on the eve of the anniversary of the opening of the Second Vatican Council (11 October 1962), was Professor Felix Wilfred, an internationally renowned Indian theologian, called by Pope Francis as an expert to the Synod.
During the lecture, Wilfred presented theology in the Asian context and its development over the past years and insisted on respect for local cultures as the foundation of Christian missions.
The event inaugurated the integrated seminar for lecturers and doctoral students dedicated to the theme Asian Theologies: Perspectives ‘in Context’ and Research Implications (theological-practical) curated by Professors Guenzi and George, which will be held in various sessions throughout the academic year.
Moderated by president Bordeyne, who was also present at the Synod as an expert, the meeting allowed the academic community to actively join the Synod journey and understand theology in the Asian context.

The Seed of Vatican II. Blossoming in Asian Landscape è il titolo della conferenza pubblica organizzata dal Pontificio Istituto Giovanni Paolo II con il Pontificio Collegio Irlandese, che si è svolta giovedì 10 ottobre 2024.
Relatore della conferenza, che si è svolta alla vigilia dell’anniversario dell’apertura del Concilio Vaticano II (11 Ottobre 1962), è stato il professor Felix Wilfred, teologo indiano di fama internazionale, chiamato da papa Francesco come esperto al Sinodo.
Nel corso della conferenza, Wilfred ha presentato la teologia nel contesto asiatico e il suo sviluppo durante gli ultimi ann e ha insistito sul rispetto delle culture locali come fondamento delle missioni cristiane.
L’evento ha inaugurato il seminario integrato per docenti e dottorandi dedicato al tema Teologie Asiatiche: prospettive “in contesto” e ricadute sulla ricerca (teologico-pratica) curato dai professori Guenzi e George, che si terrà in varie sedute durante tutto l’anno accademico.
Moderato dal preside Bordeyne, anche lui presente al Sinodo come esperto, l’incontro ha consentito alla comunità accademica di unirsi in modo attivo al cammino sinodale e comprendere la teologia nel contesto asiatico.
